Gas geysers are not the type of product that should be bought without at least some research taking place first. What works for one person’s needs may not work for another’s, so it’s important to do your homework properly to avoid disappointment.

In South Africa, you’ll find that you have two main options when it comes to geysers; standard geysers and advanced geysers.

Standard Gas Geysers

Bosch, Atlas and Kexin are all popular brands of standard gas geysers which can be found in South Africa. Traditional gas geysers are often more affordable than advanced gas geysers. They are simple to use and operated by use of a battery. There is usually a one year warranty attached to standard gas geysers when they’re installed by a professional.

On the downside, standard gas geysers battle to supply enough hot water to multiple hot taps at one time. There is also an 8m to 10m limit of how far this hot water can reach. This means that standard gas geysers don’t really work when it comes to double story homes and homes with multiple bathrooms. These types of geysers will also need protective coverings and will require a flue pipe.

Standard gas geysers come in a number of different sizes, and you’ll need to do research into which literage will suit your household needs the most.

Advanced Gas Geysers

Paloma, Atlas, Rinnai, Dewhot & Bosch are all advanced gas geyser brands that can easily be found in South Africa. One of the main reasons that advanced gas geysers are often the more popular choice is because they are far more gas efficient. They make use of the ambient water temperature and can operate under low water pressures to obtain an exact water temperature.

Advanced gas geysers don’t require protective coverings or flue pipes. Certain advanced gas geysers can also be connected to your solar system.

There aren’t many disadvantages when it comes to advanced gas geysers, but they are a lot more expensive than standard gas geysers. They also require an electrical connection in order to operate.
